About Joseph Albao
Joseph Albao is a distinguished Filipino painter and a strong presence in contemporary Philippine art. His career reflects both technical skill and conceptual depth.
He comes from Padre Garcia, Batangas. Before becoming a full-time visual artist, Joseph worked as an Art Director and Mural Artist. He developed his creative skills within the art departments of prominent Philippine television networks.
Exhibitions and International Reach
Joseph has successfully held eight solo exhibitions in the Philippines. His works have also reached audiences beyond the country.
He has exhibited in major art hubs across Europe, including Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, and France. His works have also appeared in several Asian countries and territories. These include Singapore, China, Hong Kong, Vietnam, and South Korea.
Through these exhibitions, Joseph continues to expand his presence in the local and international art scene.
Awards and Competitions
Joseph continually challenges himself by joining national art competitions. His portfolio includes several major awards and finalist recognitions.
He won First Place in the 2017 HeART National Painting Competition. He also earned Second Place in the JTI Painting Contest.
Joseph became a finalist in the 2023 Philippine Pastel Competition, the 2021 GSIS National Painting Competition, and the 2023 PCSO National Painting Competition.
He also joined the 2018 2nd Alveo National Painting Competition, the 2017 1st Tarlac National Painting Competition, and the 2016 Manila Bulletin Sketch Fest Painting Competition.
In 2018, he secured First Place in PIG Sining: A Fine Arts Contest. These achievements form part of his growing list of distinctions in Philippine visual arts.
Building Artistic Communities
Joseph also plays an important role in developing artistic communities. He has founded several art groups over the years.
These include the Vice Versa Artists Group in 2012, Chroma Garcia Artists Group in 2019, Sihay Lipa Artists Group in 2022, and Ala Prima Artists Group in 2024.
He also established the Sidera Art Caravan, which serves as a mini art exhibition. In addition, he created Suloy Art Mentoring and the Advance Suloy Art Mentoring Program.
These initiatives give emerging artists a platform to develop their skills. They also help young artists gain exhibition exposure and connect with potential collectors.
