Artistic Style and Approach
Belicario explores form through experimentation and expressive composition. His works communicate dramatic and emotional narratives. Through his use of light and shadow, he creates a sense of depth and intensity.
At the same time, his paintings balance light and darkness. This contrast allows viewers to experience both clarity and mystery within his compositions. As a result, his works often evoke a powerful and immersive response.
Evolution of Style
Over time, Belicario’s style has evolved significantly. Compared to his earlier works, his recent paintings focus less on fine details. Instead, he emphasizes bold brushstrokes, light, and color.
Furthermore, his compositions now incorporate natural and atmospheric elements. These elements enhance the emotional impact of his works while maintaining recognizable forms.
Influences and Inspiration
Belicario draws inspiration from both classical and contemporary artists. His influences include Leonardo da Vinci, Odd Nerdrum, Vincent Desiderio, and Orley Ypon.
He also admires Rembrandt’s use of light and shadow, particularly in chiaroscuro techniques. In addition, he studied works by William Turner and Thomas Moran to understand luminous effects in painting.
Within the Philippines, he takes inspiration from masters such as Juan Luna and Felix Resurreccion Hidalgo. Through these influences, Belicario continues to refine his artistic voice and creative direction.
